Male deer grow antlers seasonally. They usually shed their antlers after mating season. Each year they grow back larger. They are solid bone and require large quantities of minerals. In early spring they are covered in a vascular tissue called velvet, because the texture is similar to that of velvet. Beautiful creatures.

A rare image of a flying peacock. Truly amazing photograph!
